Woman killed after being struck by semi on I-29

Sioux City, Iowa - A woman has died after authorities say she was struck by a semi pulling a livestock trailer on I-29 early Thursday morning.

According to the Sioux City Police department, authorities were dispatched to the Hamilton Boulevard exit from I-29 South after the report of a person laying in one of the travel lanes.

Once on scene they located a critically injured female. She was transported to Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City where she later died as a result of her injuries. 

Authorities say that their investigation revealed that it appears that the female victim was standing on the roadway in the right lane of I-29 near the Hamilton Blvd. exit when she was struck by the semi.

Police continue to investigate the incident and the names of those involved have not yet been released.
