Former clerk arrested for theft of Westfield city money

Money came from city's public park, T-ball complex

LE MARS, Iowa - There's new developments Wednesday afternoon involving thousands of dollars in missing city funds from a Plymouth County community.

It's a case "9 Investigates" recently uncovered.

Authorities say that they took former Westfield City Clerk Angela Sorensen into custody on theft charges on Wednesday.

As "9 Investigates" first reported last week, a warrant had been issued for her arrest after the city accused her of stealing thousands of dollars.

She appeared before a judge late Wednesday who set bond at $5,000, but then released her on her own signature.

New court documents reviewed by "9 Investigates" show during her time at Westfield city hall back in 2015, Sorensen is alleged to have pocketed nearly $9,000 from a city fundraising account for the public park and t-ball complex.

Other court documents previously reviewed by "9 Investigates" outline that sorenson's dealt with a string of personal financial problems and had thousands of dollars in court judgements levied against her.
