UPDATE: Will Confession Be Thrown Out in Rockwell City Officer Slaying?

Fort Dodge, IA (ABC9 News) - Attorneys will spent Friday afternoon arguing about whether the confession of an Iowa man charged in the shooting death of a Rockwell City police officer should be allowed during the trial.

Corey Trott, 33, is accused of killing Officer Jamie Buenting on September 13th. Court records say Trott shot Buenting in the neck with a high-powered rifle during an hours-long standoff at Trott's house. Law enforcement officers were trying to arrest Trott after he'd attacked his mother.

The motion to suppress claims Trott's constitutions rights were violated during an interview six hours after his arrest, during which Trott admitted to shooting Buenting. Defense attorneys argue that Trott shouldn't have been interviewed again after telling a state trooper he did not want to talk.

The prosecution argues Trott was read his Miranda rights three times before he made the confession, and also waived his right to have an attorney present.

The judge said he will review transcripts from the hearing before making a decision.

Trott's first-degree murder trial is scheduled to start in Clarion on Sept. 2.
