Nearly a hundred in Sioux City lose power after large tree falls on power lines

Strong winds are to blame for the weakened tree

SIOUX CITY, Iowa - A big tree weakened by recent storms comes crashing down onto power lines in Sioux City -- triggering a power outage.

Nearly 100 folks are without power in the Morningside area of Sioux City after this tree fell onto a power line late Sunday afternoon. It happened at 2715 South Saint Aubin street.

Sioux City Fire Rescue crews quickly responded after that tree came crashing down -- but fortunately there were no injuries.

MidAmerican Energy crews are working to get the downed tree limbs cleared and power restored to the homes in that neighborhood.

Officials say they believe high winds from recent storms here in Siouxland weakened the tree and caused it to fall over.
