Morningside professor remembered as champion for campus radio station

Dr. Mark Heistad died of esophageal cancer Monday

SIOUX CITY, Iowa - A beloved Morningside College professor has passed away.

The Morningside community is remembering Dr. Mark Heistad who died Monday of esophageal cancer.
 
He was diagnosed in 2015 which is when he invited former students to shave his 40-year-old beard in preparation for surgery.
 
"Doc," as he was called, was instrumental in revitalizing Morningside's campus radio station. He was also the faculty adviser for KCAU 9's Jenna Rehnstrom, a Morningside alum.
 
Heistad was 59 years old.
