ISU Design and WITCC initiate new program

The goal is to have students come back and work for industries in Sioux City

SIOUX CITY, Iowa - Getting an Iowa State University degree might be getting a little bit easier.  At least thats the case for those who are planning on attending Western Iowa Tech Community College before transferring to the ISU campus in Ames.

A new program allows students to take classes in the core design program at ISU Design West in Soux City before completing general ed requirements at WITCC and then complete the rest of their upper division courses. Officials believe this will have a domino effect on the number of young professionals that bring success to their hometowns once they complete the program.

"Nurturing those creative minds on this side of the state, I think is going to have a ripple effect in other activities around here. We can actually have those kids then come back and work for industries here, open businesses in this area that are new and attracting new activities. I think that's going to be a long-term benefit for Sioux City and the Siouxland region," says ISU Dean Luis Rico-Gutierrez.

A multitude of new courses will be offered under the program.

ISU Design West Studio opened in September of 2007 at 10141/2 Fourth St.
