Elanco closing Larchwood plant

Operations are being consolidated with a facility in Fort Dodge

LARCHWOOD, Iowa - The largest employer in Larchwood, Iowa is announcing plans to close up shop leaving more than a hundred workers jobless.

The Elanco plant in Lyon County near the South Dakota and Minnesota borders.  Formerly known as Novartis Animal Health the facility makes vaccines for cattle and swine.

Company officials say they're consolidating their operations into another plant in Fort Dodge, Iowa.  That means between 130 and 170 workers will be out of a job in Larchwood come sometime next year.

Lyon County's economic development director calls that decision quote, "disappointing."
