Camp High Hopes celebrates five thriving years

Camp High Hopes continues to serve more campers with disabilities every year

SIOUX CITY, Iowa -

Anybody who has ever worked for a non-profit knows how hard it can be, but to those on the inside of camp high hopes, they see their investment as 100 percent worth it.

"When you see all of the smiles at the end of the day -- middle of the day -- once they achieve something, try something new -- you see it in their faces. You see it in their eyes. How proud they are of themselves, how proud they are of the friends they made here -- that makes it all worth while," says Morgan.

Camp counselors tend to be the heartbeat of every camp -- one high hopes counselor travels all the way from England because this special place in Sioux City, Iowa has captured her heart.

"It's always going to be somewhere that's really special to me personally because it cemented what I wanted to do as a career and I'm just really looking forward to see how the camp grows over my lifetime and hopefully beyond," says Melissa Horton, activity leader.

Camp high hopes first ever camper, who also calls herself the poster child, insisted on receiving donations for camp instead of presents at her birthday party this year. Camp is her favorite place because of the other campers she meets...

Karlee's, and thousands more smiles.
