1 arrested after driving through a cornfield

Vehicle came to a stop in a bean field south of Salix

SALIX, Iowa - UPDATE: A Sioux City man was arrested Friday, fleeing from an officer and going through a cornfield.

According to the Woodbury County Sheriff's Office, 44-year-old Daniel Frye of Sioux City was arrested Friday morning. Around 10:00 A.M., a Woodbury County deputy was dispatched to the WinneVegas Inn to check on belongings left behind in a rented room. The deputy was told that the cleaning staff found 2 needles and what they thought was methamphetamine in the room. Frye returned to the room but fled when he saw the deputy.

Frye got in his vehicle and headed north on Interstate 29, weaving in between traffic. The deputy activated his lights but Frye continued, reaching 88 miles-per-hour in a 70 miles-per-hour zone. Frye ran off the road at the Port Neal exit and drove through a corn and bean field on the north side of 260th Street, causing approximately $1,260 to the crop ground. Two people from the vehicle were found around Country Road K45 and 250th Street

The items left behind in the rented room did test positive for methamphetamine and there were 4 baggies weighing around 21 grams in total. They also found 2 glass pipes used to smoke methamphetamine. Frye admitted that the items were his.

Frye is charged with Possession with Intent to Deliver, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Criminal Mischief 2nd, Reckless Driving, Speeding, and a Stop Sign Violation. He is currently housed in the Woodbury County Jail. His bond is set for $20,000, and his next court appearance is August 21st at 9:00 A.M.

According to the Woodbury Count Sheriff's Office, around Friday at 10:10 A.M.south of Salix, a deputy tried to make a traffic stop of a vehicle going north on Interstate 29. The vehicle fled, taking the Port Neal exit, traveling east. It then drove into a cornfield on the north side of 260th Street and went north. It exited the cornfield and started driving into a bean field where the vehicle came to a stop. 

Two people from the vehicle were found around Country Road K45 and 250th Street. The driver was booked into the Woodbury County Jail. 

The investigation for the incident is ongoing.
